How Fredrikstad FK Uses Their App to Drive Fan Engagement and Ticket Sales

Fredrikstad FK FFK+

The Norwegian top tier club Fredrikstad FK has found a new way to connect with supporters through their official app, FFK+. By combining exclusive content, interactive features, and seamless ticketing access, the club is strengthening loyalty and boosting revenues. At the core is a simple idea with big potential: meet the fans where they are, and make every interaction easier.

Background

Fredrikstad Fotballklubb (FFK) is one of Norway’s most traditional football clubs, with a proud history, a 12,300-seat stadium, and an average attendance close to 9,000. In 2025, the club is back in the European spotlight — having recently faced Danish side Midtjylland in the Europa League qualifiers, and now preparing for a Conference League showdown with English Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Behind the scenes, much of Fredrikstad’s recent off-pitch success is driven by a strong focus on fan engagement. At the heart of this effort stands Markus Slyngenborg Jensen, Head of Fan Engagement and Media, who joined FFK in 2024 after a similar role at IK Start.

FFK+ – More Than an App

When Markus started at FFK, his first major project was the launch of FFK+, the club’s official app. Developed in collaboration with app supplier Forza, FFK+ was designed to be the hub of everything Fredrikstad.

The app offers both a free version and a subscription-based premium tier.

  • Free users get ticket QR codes, club news, push notifications, and interactive features like Man of the Match votes and score predictions.

  • Premium subscribers gain exclusive behind-the-scenes video content, player spotlights, and early access to ticket sales for big matches.

The launch was perfectly timed: preseason training camps and a strong domestic cup run gave FFK unique content to share. This positioned FFK+ as the go-to platform for fans hungry for inside access. Today, the app has around 10,000 users, of which about 1,000 are paying subscribers.

A Tool for Engagement and Growth

FFK+ has quickly become part of the club’s weekly routine. Premium subscribers enjoy unique documentaries, interviews, and game-day features, while younger fans — traditionally harder to reach — are increasingly active on the platform.

Ticketing has also been boosted by the app. Push notifications link directly to TicketCo’s platform, making it seamless for fans to purchase tickets. According to Markus, this ease of access contributed to a spike in season ticket sales when the app launched.

For FFK’s high-demand matches, including European qualifiers, presales have been offered through FFK+ to ensure club supporters get priority. The app has also been used to channel general ticket sales, reinforcing its role as the central fan touchpoint.

Away Ticketing – A European Challenge

European football brings unique ticketing challenges. For the London leg against Crystal Palace, Fredrikstad fans are purchasing directly through Palace’s ticketing system. For the return leg in Norway, FFK is handling ticket distribution for the English supporters — in this case via traditional paper PDFs. The club’s experience against Midtjylland showed how demanding manual distribution can be, highlighting the need for continued digital innovation.

Integration with TicketCo

TicketCo has been Fredrikstad’s ticketing provider for years through its role as official ticketing partner of Norsk Toppfotball. With FFK+, the integration is already showing value — tickets purchased via TicketCo can automatically appear in the app when registered to the same email or phone number. Fans now expect a seamless, app-first ticketing journey, and Fredrikstad is working towards making the app the single place to buy and store tickets.

Technical Deep Dive – TicketCo Flex in Action

The seamless link between Fredrikstad’s FFK+ app and TicketCo’s ticketing platform is powered by TicketCo Flex, our open API integration framework.

TicketCo Flex is built on direct REST API integrations, making it fast, secure, and highly adaptable. For Fredrikstad, this means the app can:

  • Fetch and manage account and profile data directly within the app.

  • Allow fans to create and register profiles in one simple mobile flow.

  • Enable fans to purchase, transfer, and store tickets in the app, with QR codes available instantly for matchday access.

As Kjetil Sørtun, CTO at TicketCo, explains:

“With TicketCo Flex, clubs like Fredrikstad are free to decide how they want to communicate with their fans and what services they want to offer. The technology makes those choices easy to implement, secure to run, and fast to deploy.”

This flexibility is what allows FFK+ to go beyond ticketing, combining fan engagement, media, and matchday access in one seamless hub. And because TicketCo Flex works with multiple providers, it gives clubs the confidence that their fan app strategy can grow and adapt over time.

Markus’ Perspective

For Markus at Fredrikstad, the FFK+ app is more than a media channel. It’s a way of strengthening the club’s relationship with supporters, expanding reach to younger demographics, and ensuring Fredrikstad remains relevant on and off the pitch.

As he explains:

The app started as a media project, but it’s become a key driver of engagement. It gives us new ways to reach fans, sell tickets, and even shape our brand for the next generation.”

Lessons for Other Clubs

The Fredrikstad case demonstrates how apps can:

  • Increase direct fan engagement through exclusive content.

  • Simplify ticketing and drive sales with push notifications.

  • Provide priority access to loyal fans for high-demand matches.

  • Reach younger demographics that traditional channels struggle to attract.

And while Fredrikstad uses Forza, the principle applies across providers: TicketCo’s platform integrates smoothly with multiple app solutions, giving clubs freedom to choose the tools that fit their strategy.

Conclusion

Fredrikstad FK’s FFK+ app is proving how digital solutions can strengthen loyalty, enhance the fan experience, and even boost ticketing revenues. With TicketCo as a long-term partner and Norsk Toppfotball as the framework, Fredrikstad is combining tradition with innovation, showing that even in the intense world of European qualifiers, fan engagement off the pitch is as vital as performance on it.
